First-time clean vs standard clean: which one does your home need?
Almost every new client asks some version of the same question: "Do I really need the first-time clean, or can I just book the standard one?" The honest answer is that the two are built for different jobs, and the difference is time, not effort.
A standard clean maintains
Our Standard Residential Clean follows a fixed checklist for every room: surfaces dusted and disinfected, kitchen and bathrooms cleaned and sanitized, appliance exteriors wiped, upholstery vacuumed, floors vacuumed and mopped, beds made, garbage out. It assumes the home was at a reasonable baseline a couple of weeks ago — which, for recurring clients, it was.
Because it follows a predefined checklist rather than a custom task list, it holds the same standard in every home, and that is what lets us back it with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
A first-time clean recovers
A First-Time Clean is everything above, plus the work that builds up quietly between professional visits:
- inside the microwave
- backsplash and grout in the kitchen and washrooms
- baseboards, doors and trim cleaned and dusted
- walls, switches and high-touch areas spot-cleaned
- light fixtures, vents and fans dusted
None of that is glamorous, and all of it takes time a maintenance visit does not have. A team sent to do a standard clean on a home that needs a first-time clean will either run out of time or skip the checklist items — neither of which is the result anyone wanted.
The 30-day rule
We require a First-Time Clean for two situations: any one-time booking, and any home that has not been professionally cleaned in roughly the past month. That threshold is not arbitrary. In Edmonton's dry, dusty climate — and especially through a winter of grit and salt — a month is about how long it takes for the detail items to fall behind a maintenance visit.
On the booking form the question is asked directly: "Is this your first professional clean in 30+ days?" Answering it honestly is the single best thing you can do for the result.
What about the Deep Clean Kitchen Bundle?
The kitchen is where build-up concentrates, so we offer a separate Deep Clean Kitchen Bundle ($89) for homes that want the kitchen taken further than the first-time scope — inside the oven and fridge are also available on their own. It is an add-on, not a replacement for the First-Time Clean.
After the first visit
This is the part that matters for your budget: once the home is at a maintenance level, recurring visits keep it there, and recurring clients never pay for a first-time clean again. Weekly is 20% off, bi-weekly 15%, tri-weekly 12%, monthly 10%. Most Edmonton families settle on bi-weekly, and the home simply stops drifting.
